Nate L. McMurry Senior Associate

Nate is an attorney in the firm’s Tax, Estate Planning and Probate department.  He primarily focuses on assisting clients with various estate planning and probate matters. He also routinely represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the South Carolina Department of Revenue.

Nate graduated from Washington and Lee University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.  He worked as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch before attending The Charleston School of Law, where he spent a summer as an intern for the Charleston Probate Court.  Upon graduating in 2012, Nate began his legal practice as an estate planning and tax controversy attorney in his hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee.  In 2016, he moved back to Charleston to work for Motley Rice, LLC, where he focused his practice on mass torts and occupational diseases.  Nate joined Buist Byars & Taylor in 2021 and is based in the firm’s Mount Pleasant office.

Nate lives in North Charleston with his wife, their two sons, and their dogs Friday and Benson.  He is a loyal Tennessee Volunteers fan and enjoys fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
